Based in Theater Het Badhuis in Nijmegen, Theatergroep Kwatta has been Gelderland´s professional youth theatre company since 2002. Josee Hussaarts is the artistic manager and director of Kwatta. Kwatta puts on productions that are both light-hearted and light-footed with a serious undertone.
Kwatta’s all-embracing theatre attracts a worldwide audience. Kwatta encourages its young viewers to discover their own greatness and stirs adults to rediscover the small things in themselves. Kwatta’s mission is to create room for amazement and wonder. By asking simple questions about difficult issues and difficult questions about things that appear to be simple. By making no assumptions and always searching for the unknown and the absurd. By tilting reality to create a different perspective.
Productions by Kwatta are often a combination of text and other forms of theatre such as music, song, puppetry and film. Kwatta performs in theatre, in schoolclasses, on location and in her own trailer.
In 2014 Kwatta received the IPAY Victor Award for their performance Manxmouse. In 2015 Kwatta was runner-up for said award with Love that dog.
Dissus was awarded a ‘Zilveren Krekel’ in 2015, the Dutch national award for youth theatre. Dissus was also nominated for a Zapp Theatre Award in 2015, as was Kwatta’s Mariken in 2016.
Jabberbable was not only awarded a ‘Zilveren Krekel’ (runner-up) in 2019, but was lauded with a ‘Gouden Krekel’ (first place) as well.
